The back extension equipment station strengthens the lower erector spinae muscles in the lower back, as well as the gluteal and hamstring muscles. This exercise, done regularly, will also result in improved posture and overall physical stability.
To perform the exercise, lie forward on the back extension bench with the front of your thighs resting against the green pad and your heels and feet held firmly in the foot bracket. With your hands behind your head or arms across your chest, slowly lower then raise your upper body to a high comfortable position, extending and contracting your lower back until the lumbar curve is increased. Hold briefly, then slowly lower again to the starting position to begin another repetition. Perform this exercise carefully to protect the lower back.
The back extension station can accommodate a majority of different height individuals, from small to tall.
